Pure Hate

Welcome to the hatefull page!

The purpose of this page is to went my frustrations and tell you about things I hate.

Please note that I don't give a fuck about your opionions about the things I list, dont write me about it - and if you do I will probably post your mail below and put you on my kill-filter.

Clueless people regulating the internet

I really hate it when clueless people try to regulate the internet. An example is the IFPI organisation  and especially the danish part of the IFPI which are totally out of control and are demanding that danish ISPs block access to sites like allofmp3 in Russia. While it might not seem bad it really IS bad, because there is no way in hell that a danish ISP can effectively block access to this site. This attempt at censorship makes me hate them and can be easily circumvented by both technical and non-technical people. I hate this because we will have to use ressources to fight this internet censorship and my grudge against the music industry as a whole will result in me considering copying music.
Yes, when the IFPI and others both accuse me of stealing and make access to music to expensive and when I have DRM-related problems when I BUY music - yes I would rather just go ahead and steal it!
So keep it up fuckheads in the IFPI - you will soon have converted me and my family into thieves and pirates, and no the internet will not filter anything you want to filter :-P
Just for the record, I use the Apple iTunes Music Store since I can buy and listen to my music on our workstations at home and I can also convert the music into MP3 for listening on my MP3 player. That is both nice and sensible.
You can read about IFPI at the addresses http://www.ifpi.org and http://www.ifpi.dk/

Windows Yes I REALLY hate Microsoft Windows

I have used Microsoft Windows since version 3.0 and all through the instabilities of WfW, 95, 98, NT, W2K, Xp(losion) and it  has NOT improved. Sure the looks are different but it still sucks!
People often think I have a religious anti-microsoft approach to Microsoft products - but that is actually not correct. I have used their so called operating systems for extended and loooooong periods of time - enough so that I have decided enough is enough. It wont work and it never will.
So I have thus decided NOT to use Microsoft Windows for any important stuff, and certainly NOT for business critical data. I have decided to use Apple Mac OS X on all workstations and that is pure heaven compared to Windows.
I have even decided not to help people get their Windows into a semi-working state after problems - friends dont let friends use windows! No, not even my mother gets help with her laptop running Windows, nope my father who uses windows does not get any help.

I sometimes hear people ask the question: "is Mac OS X any better than M$ Windows?"
Yes, much better, and I am glad to pay for the upgrades that are extremely well designed, making the upgrading of all machines from 10.1, 10.2, 10.3 and 10.4 a breeze.
I also bought Microsoft Office for Mac, and it really works and my fiance is using it a lot! I still use LaTeX and Docbook XML for my stuff, but sometimes use the Office programs when communicating to customers.

I just read this long list of things that make Mac OS X better than Windows and I couldn't express it in a more compact way than this - so I decided to copy it, if the author reads this - please step forward so that I can thank you properly.

hell thats easy I have been a Mutilmedia artist for 10years + and a Windows Admin for 6 years +! (managed about 300+ Win PCs and 5-6 Windows Servers) so lets just say I have pretty equal experience from both sides of the fence. Keep in mind Id switch to something else tomorrow if it WAS better, but at present heres a small list for you:
OSX - with *nix underpinnings, hell I got more network tools than I ever could have right from the terminal (can a win user say SSH? wheres the tools to mount NFS, or HFS+ disks Hybrid Cds/DVDs, oh thats right you have to buy them, all you can read is NTFS/Fat32. And Video, Can you run industry standards such as FCP, Motion, Shake, Logic? Do all your Video devices seamlessly integrate? Does your FW hardware work flawlessly without buying expensive add on cards? (I stuffed around for 4 years trying to produce content in XP with enough money spent on capture boards to make a Quad G5 look dirt cheap!) How about Graphics? Does your XP box have built in Color management? Do the ICC profiles seamlessly integrate from your photo catalogue apps all the way through to Photoshop and what ever publishing app you use (sorry I have not seen an XP box do this effectivley yet) Can your XP Box handle PS1 PS2 TT and OPenType Fonts? I remember the days not long ago when Apple was doomed and NT4 was to dominate the publishing industry! Funny stuff indeed! How about general Office work? well clearly you have not used or compared Office for Mac to Office for PC? Drag and drop installation (no "Install Shields/Wizards here thanks) Superior security model (virus, spyware issues) yep none of those for the past 5 years on my Macs either! Oh and games! Buddy I stopped playing at PC based Lan partys when we all got the s***s spending 2 hours getting everyone connected, games and sound cards working! Can you say the word... Playstaion 2 or Xbox 360? My Windows friends you have been using dead technology now for at least 4 years! Time to move on and use OSX or Debian or something gawd! Hey you just might be blessed with Longhorn-Vista! (or the new name... Windows XMas 2006) But if my many years in the Windows industry watching promise after promise from NT3.51 thru to WinXP has taught me anything.... Don't hold your breath! ;-) mjb

Short Hate

Time is precious and writing about hate is not very productively, so here is some short hate - things I wont go into much detail about. Call it small annoyances if you will - I actually dont care much what you call it.

OpenOffice version 2.0

This program version sucks so bad that it makes you cry! OpenOffice has been fighting so hard to make a great competitor in the Office pack arena - and I have been telling people to use it. I used it myself for working with Microsoft Office formats - using new betas and having very few problems - other than WYSIWYG programs sucks any day of the week, se another hate.
I used 1.9-something builds and was very excited about the release of version 2.0 - THE RELEASE!
Boy, was I disappointed - it crashed quite often and couldn't open the same Microsoft Office .doc format files that the 1.1.5 release could!
That is so fucking LAME - how could they make a release that was such a step back?!
I went out and bought Microsoft Office for Mac and will not recommend people to use Open Office on Mac OS X for a long time.
As a sidenote the Danish UNIX User Group made quite a large number of Open Office version 1.1 CD's and I pushed about 10-15 copies of Open Office by giving away those to people around me.
Since MS Office on Mac is better than MS Office on Windows I don't really think that OOo will have a chance to get a breakthrough and I would suggest that they either do more regular builds for Mac OS X and focus on Mac OS X - or drop the port completely. When OOo has won on the PC, it might stand a chance on Mac OS X.
